The operation unfolded on October 31, 2024, at Hyderabad International Airport, where DRI officers, acting on specific intelligence, detained two Indian passengers arriving from Bangkok. During a systematic search of the passengers’ check-in luggage, officials discovered 13 vacuum-packed transparent packets hidden inside boxes of Kellogg’s chocolate. The packets contained a greenish, lumpy substance, which tested positive for hydroponic weed using a field test kit. A total of 7.096 kg of hydroponic weed was seized. The passengers were promptly arrested under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and have since been remanded to judicial custody. Hydroponic weed, known for its high potency and value, is cultivated using advanced water-based methods, making it particularly lucrative in illicit drug markets.
